Back to School Laptops

It's that time of year again, on for this year, my supplies list includes a laptop.

For the past few weeks, I've been browsing various laptops, and so far, I've come up with 3 laptops that may fit my needs.
The Asus A53SV-XN1
1.) Newegg.ca - ASUS A53 Series A53SV-XN1 Notebook Intel Core i5 2410M(2.30GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory DDR3 1333 750GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

RAM: 6GB Memory DDR3 1333
GPU: Nvidia GT 540M
HDD: 750 GB (7200 RPM)

The MSI FX620DX-256US

2.) Newegg.ca - MSI FX620DX-256US Notebook Intel Core i5 2410M(2.30GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory 640GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
Price: $730.00

GPU: Nvidia GT 540M
HDD: 640 GB (??? RPM)

The Asus A53SV-XTI

3.) Buy the ASUS A53SV-XT1 15.6 Laptop Computer at TigerDirect.ca
Price: $770.00
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM 2.0GHz
RAM: 4GB Memory DDR3
GPU: Nvidia GT 540M
HDD: 500GB (5400 RPM)

I guess the differences are the CPU (i5 2410 vs i72630, and the ram, 6 GB for i5 vs 4 GB for i7, and the HDD 5400 vs 7200). Anyone care to comment on these things?
I do not own or take credit for all of the above images and wideos, if you would like them to be taken down, please message me.

Which laptop out of the 3 would you choose? What laptop do you use? Any recommendations for any specific laptop or brand or specs?

Hmm that's a tough call between processing power and RAM boost... either way any of those will more than suffice for a back to school laptop.

I've used an Asus before. It's a good company.
Honestly, get anything other than a Mac and you'll be fine.

I just bought a lenovo with post sandybridge dual core i3. $370 bucks. That was a good deal. Laptop is light too. Acually is a benefit. I've got a 17inch dell that is a chore to drag around the country. Break your back, sits heavy on your stomach late night surfing.

Either of the ASUS ones would be good, haven't heard anything good or bad about the other one.

i'd say get a netbook and build a desktop but that would work well for my lifestyle.

but if anything, i'd want a multi-touch touchpad so i could do mouse gestures.

Both ASUS look nice, I don't think you need more than that, just to check the casings, since a school laptop will get beat up... a lot.

Thx for comenting, comic book covers do tell a lot, and are the first contact the audience gets with a book.

They all have very good specs, Timothy Bowen is right - as long as it isn't a mac =D

I hope by school laptop you mean school gaming laptop !

To be honest I would take the core I7 instead of the 6GB ram.

I'm a fan of Toshiba,(not reaally a big Asus fan) but they have some driver release issues once in a while.... Will add, I don't own a laptop myself. Although tonight is new desktop scout night so I'm thinking about getting an I7 if its possible. :)

I thought long and hard about this but I'm probably not getting any of these laptops. Instead, I'm opting for something lower end since my desktop is already more than enough (Quad Core Q9450 & Nvidia GTS 250).

I would get the first one

First one appears to be the best, faster/bigger HD

If you're only intending on doing work/browsing the web, and you don't want to do anything massively resource intensive (playing games, watching high def/quality movies etc.), get a netbook.

Netbooks are a lot smaller and lighter, have a longer battery life (typically 7 or 8 hours minimum on purchase) and usually cheaper than a regular laptop.

I originally had a fairly decent laptop that I used but it would only last 2-3 hours without power, so I bought myself a cheap £200ish laptop, it's small (10"), doesn't have much power, but lasts 14 hours, which is more than enough to be able to take notes on thoughout the day, though it's getting a bit slow with Windows 7 so I'm tempted to install Linux on it, one of the smaller distros.

I would have gone for the first, bigger HD, more RAM.

I'd take the 3rd one! i7!

The first or third one look appealing to me.
